Senior of the Month Year 2016 - 2017
I proudly attend Serrano High School where my class rank is number eight. I have been in the Snowline Unified School District my entire educational career. I attended The Heritage School from Kindergarten through eighth grade and I credit my teachers for my current work ethic and my academic success in high school. Throughout my four years in high school I have been very fortunate to participate in many extracurricular activities. I have competed on Serrano sports teams including cross-country in my freshman year, and track for all four years. In track I compete in the thrilling and equally exciting event of pole-vaulting, in which I have received my varsity letter. I am also a member of Serrano’s Theater Arts Department. Participating four years in this amazing department has given me the opportunity to be involved in many plays. I have performed in Serrano’s The Little Mermaid; The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe; Murder at Rundown Abbey, and I have been cast in Serrano’s upcoming show, Les Miserables (showing the last two weekends in March). I have also been involved in several after school service clubs including California Scholarship Federation (CSF) and Socially Aware Serrano Students (SASS). In the summertime, I work in Big Bear as a lifeguard and swim teacher. In my spare time I enjoy volunteering as a referee for AYSO soccer, snowboarding, hanging out with my friends, and volunteering at my church. I am very fortunate to live in such an amazing community that offers me so many opportunities. I owe all of my success to my teachers, my family, and my friends. Without their constant support, the stress of school and college searching would have crushed me a long time ago. We congratulate Sarah on her achievements and wish her continued success in her future endeavors.

This month Mills Hardware True Value® of Phelan would like to introduce you to May 2015 Serrano High School Senior of the Month Sally Kim
High School has been a blur to me. I moved to the High Desert only two days before my first day of high school and here I am now, four years later, getting ready to graduate. During these four years, I have survived through multiple AP classes, have participated in various extra-curricular activities (from advocating environmental awareness to partaking in a Korean marching band), and most importantly, have met the most amazing people. Without them, I would not have the incredible memories I will leave high school with. My plans after high school are still something I have not figured out yet – but for now, it’ll be something I will hopefully unravel in college!
We congratulate Sally on her achievements and wish her continued success in her future endeavors.

On fall Friday nights, he stands tall among the crowd at a Serrano High School football game, his face painted, his blue cape billowing from below his spiked blue and gold hair. The rest of the week, the self-proclaimed Captain Diamondback is your Student Body President, your Snowline District Board of Trustees Student Representative, and a serious student, senior Nick Garner, who has earned a 4.5 grade point average and is among the top students in his class.
Nick has worked hard in and out of the classroom at Serrano High School. Serving on ASB for four years, Nick was voted Most Spirited, Most Inspirational, and Best All-Around Leader. He has played basketball and golf for four years and will be the captain of both teams in his senior year. As the Student Representative on the School Board for two years, Nick gave a voice to students and promoted student activities.
Nick has been just as prolific outside of school. When he was in seventh grade, Nick created a website – www.sportstalk4kids.com – to provide young sports fans a site with features and interviews of athletes that are positive role models. Nick has posted more than 200 videos, including interviews with Dodgers Clayton Kershaw, Matt Kemp, and Tommy Lasorda, football players and coaches from Notre Dame and USC, UCLA basketball players, Olympic Gold Medalists Misty May and Gabby Douglass, L.A. Lakers and Anaheim Ducks, and sports personalities like Dan Patrick, the Harlem Globetrotters, Bethany Hamilton, and Team Hoyt.
In November, Nick will be running in the New York City Marathon with his dad on behalf of Team Hole in the Wall. Hole in the Wall Gang Camps, founded by actor Paul Newman, give children with serious illnesses the opportunity to attend summer camp. As members of the team, Nick and his family have raised more than $20,000 to send kids to camp.
Nick is weighing his college options, but wherever he ends up next year, you can be sure that he’ll be a leader in the classroom and in the community – and in the stadium.
